This fellow, Pete Morse, is a bit of a miracle worker behind the mixing console. As the producer and engineer of the new recording project, he’s been wildly successful at keeping my primitively circular mind in chec.

The rough mixes are in, but it’s already clear that it wouldn’t be what it is without his talents.

You never know your songs until you pick them apart sonically; until you’re listening for things that you never did on the late nights of Guinness and no sleep. You start to hear things that didn’t exist before.

And then you have to know when to stop. When to say enough and don’t go any farther. The guitar parts took two days. Something I wasn’t expecting. Two days before I cried, “halt!”

Next week brings singing and hopefully others like Josh Madore who stop by and play along too.

Here is the latest from the band and the upcoming CD:

The CD is being recorded in Portland starting on Aug 12th at Busted Barn in Portland, Maine. It will feature 10 new songs.
Cover art is by the wonderful French photographer, Christophe Garnier.
The disc will be available sometime in early September on iTunes and retail CD. No plans for vinyl yet. It will also hit indie stores and other digital distribution by mid-Sept.
The songs are a collaboration between Troy and several artists to be named. It’s very impromptu and the roughness of the first disc will be carried over. Unlike the last one though, the songs are being recorded over a short period of time.
There will be two new videos out for the first singles. The dates for these aren’t finalized yet.
Two release shows are scheduled for Septembers and one for October. Other dates and cities are pending. There are plans for a European tour this winter.
The title of the CD relates to “trust” in some way, but it’s still up in the air.

The Name is Now…

For the next CD, I’m thinking we’ll use the slang name of the band. Everyone shortens it, so we will too.

Look forward to seeing the CD in late October filed under “There Is No Sin.”

Not sure how this will all work out. Not sure that I’ll stick with it. The idea entertains me though.

And Here We Go…

It’s been a long time since I’ve had to turn to a studio for help. I like the guerrilla recording method for most of my stuff. It just seems like the wrong way to do this record.

This time, there are too many people who have voices and instruments that need to be heard and too little space to capture it. Plus, the last engineer who I mastered with seemed like he wanted to kill me when it came to continuity.

So, here I am. Heading to record this disc. Probably in Boston since I can’t find what I need in Portland. We’ll see how it goes.

New Record Details

We’re recording Record #2 in July.

The details are coated in fog, but there will be ten tracks and more guest appearances by people that we trust and love.

Other than a few shows in September, we don’t have a lot of live information yet. We’ll keep you posted.

This will not be a happy CD. Sorry to those who wished for a breath of lovely air after the first trip to Floor 6.
